101 things to do while
in San Diego

About Us
Sometime in August 1989, a small group of radio enthusiast in San Diego, California came together and  formed a ham radio club, first known as Filipino Amateur Radio Club of San Diego, California. For a few, especially the newbies, the first moments was a shock, because ham radio was a whole new world for them.

In the very fragile beginning of the club, some members were not satisfied with the club’s name. After scrambling and unscrambling letters in thousands of different ways, the group came up with what is now known as the Filipino-American Amateur Radio Society of San Diego California otherwise known as FILAMARS.
The club was determined to own and operate their own repeater system and help make a difference within the HAM radio community. And in not a longer time after the formation,  they were able to set up decent repeater on 2-Meter and 1.25 Meter band.

Upon formation of the club, their objectives were:
¤ to promote the Filipino-American national and cultural heritage
¤ to promote the value of amateur radio to the public and enhance friendship

¤ to observe part 97 of the FCC rules and regulations which deals with amateur radio service
¤ to support non commercial voluntary communication service for public safety and  emergencies
¤ to enhance communication skills among members and guide them on the proper operation
of amateur radio in all modes and phases of Radio Frequency transmission and reception

¤ to operate and maintain VHF and UHF repeaters for the use of the radio amateur community

FILAMARS was granted its first amateur radio call sign in 1995 - KF6AYN, and in February 4, 1997 received its first vanity call sign - AF6P. Consequently, in May 28, 2002, FILAMARS received its present vanity call sign, ND6U

The club currently holds its weekly net every Monday at 8:00 PM PST on the 449.360 MHz repeater machine.
